Actors

Limiting to just my top ten, 'cause otherwise the list gets way too long... (Others being left off include such worthies as: Michael Biehn, Nicholas Cage, James Garner, Mel Gibson, Sir Alec Guinness, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Karl Malden, Tim Robbins, George C. Scott, and Denzel Washington)
    Kenneth Branagh
  • Kenneth Branagh
Quirky yet serious, he always exudes his joy of performing, and manages to do so in such a genuine manner that you can't help but smile (as opposed to those who are pretentious and preening).
  • Sean Connery
Probably one of the best actors of all time, he has only gotten better with age, and arguably has more acting ability in each bristle of his beard than most top-tier actors and actresses have in their whole body. From Hitchcock to Bond, and action or drama, he has charisma, presence, and grace to spare.
  • Tim Curry
Such a versatile actor, and a delight to watch. From The Rocky Horror Picture Show to Legend to The Hunt for Red October to Disney's The Three Musketeers his charisma and dynamic style bring a depth and power to all his roles.
  • John Cusack
  • Clint Eastwood
  • Harrison Ford
  • Morgan Freeman
  • Michael Keaton
  • Al Pacino
  • Claude Rains

Actresses

Kellie Martin Hmmm. I really don't have many women who stand out as spectacular actresses in my mind. Plenty are decent, and lots are quite attractive, but only a few jump to mind as having the presence and ability that I find with the men. Now, I don't know if this perhaps says more about the scriptwriters, the kind of movies and shows I watch, or the way actresses are taught, but there definitely seems to be something missing too often...
  • Judi Dench
I've only seen her in her later years, but she has that certain charisma so many modern actresses lack.
  • Sophie Marceau
One of the rare ones: beautiful and capable.
  • Demi Moore
Ignoring all the controversies over many of her roles and politics, I still think she is among the better of the current crop of actresses.
  • Kellie Martin Kellie Martin
Okay, granted she reminds me a lot of my "first love" from back in high school, but I've also enjoyed following her career from Life Goes On (which also struck a resonant chord for me due to the handicapped sibling) to Christie, Crisis Center and E.R.

While she has lost some of her "cuteness" as she has grown older, she still holds the place in my mind as the epitomy of the adorable "girl next door."

  • Reneé O'Connor Reneé O'Connor
I really liked Reneé as Gabrielle in the first two or three seasons of Xena: Warrior Princess, when she was more youthful, cuter, and positive. Once she began to be more negative and combat oriented, and less of the "people person," I began to lose interest. And I think she looks horrible in short hair. Short hair works for some women, but she's not one of them, at least not in any of the short stylings I've seen on her.
  • Gwyneth Paltrow
Loved her in Shakespeare In Love and Sliding Doors. She seems to be one of the ones who can actually act, with a fair range of characterisations, and also be beautiful.
  • Meryl Streep
Definitely one more associated with "character actors" than with "beautiful people." Nevertheless, she has turned in superb performances in most every show in which I have seen her.
  • Emma Thompson
